Bio
Erouscilla Joseph has been working with the Seismic Research Centre since August, 2002. Born in Trinidad, Erouscilla is responsible for the collection and analysis of volcanic gases and geothermal waters in the islands of the Lesser Antilles as part of an ongoing geothermal monitoring programme established by the Seismic Research Centre. In 2008, she also became involved in the monitoring efforts at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) in Montserrat, where she assists with the monitoring of the Soufriere Hills Volcano.
Research Interests
Erouscilla’s research interest includes work on geochemical and isotopic signatures of volcanic-hydrothermal systems aimed at process-oriented understanding of their evolution, and monitoring of volcanic activity. She also works on the use of reactive transport modeling to investigate changes in the chemistry of geothermal systems, and the health effects of exposure to volcanic emissions. More recently, she has been involved in collaborative research with Dr. Latchman of SRC, involving radon monitoring for seismic surveillance.
PhD Research
Erouscilla’s PhD research project involved volcanic geochemistry, with a focus on the collection and analysis of volcanic gases and geothermal waters in the islands of the Lesser Antilles, and its application to monitoring changes in volcanic activity. It also involved study of the behavior of the magmatic component in the volcanic gases, and the evolution of geothermal systems. Other areas of research included study of the hazards and impact, on human health, of persistently degassing volcanoes and the use of geothermal sites for recreational purposes.
Responsibilities
Geochemical monitoring of geothermal systems
Student supervision
Deborah Robertson; PhD,
2009-present. University of the West Indies. Topic: Dynamics of Geothermal Systems in the Eastern
Caribbean – modeling of the geophysical conditions of the Boiling
Lake, Dominica to better understand the phenomena of its unusual activity, and
the general response of geothermal systems to deep magmatic input.
